Milliyet daily newspaper was founded by veteran journalist and publisher Ali Naci Karacan (1896-1955). The first issue was printed on May 3, 1950. After Ali Naci Karacan's death, his son Ercüment took over and, in 1955, sold the newspaper to Aydın Doğan. In 2011, it was acquired by the Demirören and Karacan groups together. Demirören, a conglomerate with many businesses in energy, mining and construction, acquired all shares in 2012. It had no Editor in Chief since Fikret Bila, who had been working at the paper for more than 30 years, resigned in June 2016. On March 3, 2017, Mete Belovacıklı has been assigned as an editor in chief to Milliyet.

According to Article 434 of Turkish Commercial Code, shareholders in corporations ('Anonim Şirket’) use their voting rights in proportion with their shares’ nominal value. Each shareholder has at least one vote, however voting rights might be limited, or given more weight with articles of association. Moreover, public companies may issue shares without voting rights according to Article 14/A of Capital Markets Law.

Milliyet Daily was founded by veteran journalist and publisher Ali Naci Karacan (1896-1955). He was among the founders of Akşam in 1918 and founded İkdam, Tan, Politika, İnkılâp and Bugün newspapers. Milliyet was the last newspaper he founded, it was published first in 1950. His son Ercüment Karacan took over when he passed away in 1955 and sold the newspaper in 1979. Ali Naci Karacan's family is still in the publishing industry. In 2011, it was acquired by the Demirören and Karacan groups together. Demirören, a major business group with many businesses in energy, mining and construction, acquired all shares in 2012.

Tevfik Kınık was born in 1977 in Bingöl. He is a graduate of Ankara University Faculty of Political Sciences. In 1999, he became an assistant specialist at the capital markets board (CMB). After leaving the CMB Vice-President position in 2016, he moved to the private sector and worked for Aktif Bank, a part of Çalık Group.

Mete Belovacıklı, who was the editorial coordinator of Milliyet prior to his appointment as the editor-in-chief of the daily, was born in Ankara in 1962. He is a graduate of the Economics Department of Hacettepe University, who started his career in journalism in 1985 at the Turk News Agency. The same yeari he went on to work as a reporter at Milliyet, which was under Dogan Media then. He took part in the foundation of CNN Türk TV Channel in 1999 and served as News Chief and Ankara Representative for the same channel and as an Ankara Representative of Posta Daily - all outlets that are still under Dogan. Belovacıklı also prepared and presented news and discussion programs on TV channels such as TRT1, TRT Türk and TV8. He formerly served as an editor-in-chief of The New Anatolian Daily and ATA TV.

Emrah Kurtoğlu was elected as the General Manager of Demirören media group’s Executive Board in April 2016. He’s the General Manager of Milliyet (newspaper) as well as Milliyet and Vatan's websites.
